Farming Simulator 22: Selling Wood chips

Farming Simulator 22: Selling Wood chips

How to sell wood chips on Farming Simulator 22

Farming Simulator 22 lets you do all sorts of awesome farming stuff. You know, things like purchasing (or even making) seeds, or maintaining water tanks. Another thing you can do, is to cut down trees and sell their resources – which is a pretty interesting and reliable way to make some money in the game.

There are multiple ways of how to use trees to make some money: you can sell entire uncut trees, firewood, or even wood chips.

This is exactly what we’re going to talk about in this post. On top of reviewing our favorite methods of dealing with the trees in the game, we’ll also take a look at how to sell wood chips on Farming Simulator 22!

The game allows you to cut any tree that grows on the land that you own. Depending on your map, there can be a lot of them. However, not all trees were made the same way. For example, the Ravenport map includes a lot of trees with irregular shapes. Therefore, they can’t be harvested in an automatic way. What can you do with them?

We suggest 4 options:

  1. Cut down the trees into smaller, more manageable pieces and load them using a crane.
  2. Chop the trees into simple firewood, and load them onto a trailer by hand.
  3. Use a wood chip machine to quickly turn them into chips.
  4. Cut down the trees, remove the biggest branches and then move them using the tractor.

But first, we need to see just what trees do you have – and then choose the most suitable tactic.

“Straight” trees

This is the true “farmer’s dream”. Straight trees are as good as any tree could possibly be. There are no complications that could possibly happen with dealing with them. Just chop them into parts, and turn them into chips.

Or not – long pieces actually bring in more money. In fact, we actually don’t suggest you turn straight trees into wood chips. As endearing as this option may look, it actually makes a lot more sense to maximize your profit and use straight trees for something else.

In that case, you’ll also need some additional machinery. Let’s take a look at what you need to have in your machinery list in order to make the best out of straight trees.

First up, you’ll need a loader trailer. One of the best ones out there is the Stepa FHL 13 AK. We love it because it’s super cheap: it’s a perfect starter trailer, great when you’re not exactly rolling in cash (at least not yet!). This machine can help cut trees down to size and easily bring them into the shop. Just remember that the recommended bale size is 4 meters.

Fliegl Timber Runner is another excellent option. It’s a bit more expensive: but if you have tall trees, it’s an excellent pick, because the bale size is increased by double, to 8 meters.

In order to load those trees to the trailers, you’ll also need a loader. There are various different types – like tractors, skid steer loaders, or even telehandlers. Just be aware that fresh uncut trees are super heavy. Your tiny starter tractor may not be able to handle them.

Now, let’s talk about the harvester. This is a tool that’s used to take the tree and cut it into variously sized pieces. Fittingly, harvester prices are also quite various. Some are super cheap, and others will set you back a massive sum.

Are the expensive ones worth it?

The expensive harvester would be something like a Komatsu, or a Ponsse. Their recommended bale size will be 8 meters. Sampo Rosenlew is the economical option, and automatically, the bale size will also be smaller, at just 6 meters. MAN TGX is also 6 meters. Obviously, there’s a difference. The more expensive machine will help you save a good deal of time, and make a bunch more money. Just like with most machinery of Farming Simulator 22, buying it makes sense if you can give it enough work to pay itself back.

Finally, there’s one more thing to remember. All trees, both whole and cut to size, should be without branches.

And also  – you don’t need expensive machinery to get the best results. If you work with smaller trees, getting something massive and expensive would actually be an overkill. When looking at what machinery to buy, always pay attention to what you’ll be working with. For instance, DFM CFB-16 is pretty cheap, but is an excellent option for fields with smaller trees.

Finally, when working with the trees, remember that they’re massive, super heavy cargo. So, use the belts to secure everything in place. This way, you’ll avoid your cargo getting lost or damaged.

How to get rid of trunks

Once you cut down the tree, you need to get rid of its trunks. FSI ST 65 T is a perfect tool for that. You can easily obtain it via the Forestry Machines tab.

Wood chips

Finally, let’s talk about wood chips of Farming Simulator 22. They can help you bring it a good deal of benefits. While we talked a lot about making the best out of straight trees, truth is, not all trees are going to be like that. But you can wood chips out of any tree – even branches!

To make wood chips, a special machine needs to be purchased. Let’s have a look at some of the best wood chips machine options out there on FS22:

  1. JENZ BA 725 – a good simple option for smaller wood pieces and small to medium sized bales.
  2. JENZ HEM 583 Z – this machine gets powered by a tractor, and is suited for average-sized bales.
  3. JENZ HE 700 StA – this machine can be set on any location of your land. The best thing about it is that it works continuously. Also, it’s going to automatically sell the wood chips that it makes. Sadly, it also won’t come cheap. Costing around $100 a day to maintain, it needs to be quite busy in order to make sense financially. You can buy it from the Objects tab on the shop.

For moving wood chips, you won’t need any special type of trailer. Any basic trailer you have available will do.

Planting trees

Damcon PL-75 is a great piece of machinery for planting trees. It can be found on the Forestry Machines section, and it’s an excellent tool for planting – but it’ll require special tree seedlings. If you plan to use the PL-75 for planting, remember these three things: one stillage of trees includes 20 seedlings, that’s the limit; also, the space between seedlings is around 5 meters; and finally – you don’t need to fertilize any of the trees.

Summary and Profit Counter

While wood chips are an exciting option, the real good money is in the bales. And the longer the bale is, the better the cash. For example:

  1. Whole tree – $1,200/$1,300;
  2. 1-meter bale – $1,800
  3. 2-meter bale – $2,100
  4. 3-meter bale – $2,500
  5. 4-meter bale – $3,000
  6. 6-meter bale – $3,350
  7. 8-meter bale – $3,450
  8. Woodchips – around $1,200 (the market is rather unstable)

Before selling the trees, they’ll also need to be cleaned up. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. The best option for that is either the JENZ HE 700 StA or the Sampo Rosenlew.
  2. The harvester can take the entire tree, and transport it to the lumber mill.

So, looking to sell wood chips in Farming Simulator 22? There might be some other options you’d be interested in instead. But if you still do, now you know the best machinery for it.
